In the last reading, the Thai Senate approved the marriage equality rules. It will now be given to King Maha Vajiralongkorn for aristocratic approval, and it will take effect 120 days after it is published in the official Royal Gazette.
On Tuesday, Thai politicians convened to vote on legalizing same-sex unions, probably making Thailand the first nation in Southeast Asia to recognize wedding justice and the second country in Asia to recognize same-sex couples after Nepal and Taiwan.
” Thursday is the day that Thai citizens will teeth.” It is a win for the people”, Tunyawaj Kamolwongwat, an MP with the liberal Move Forward Party, told reporters.
The innovative policy replaces references to “men”, “women”, “husbands”, and “wives” in union laws with gender- negative terms, granting similar- sex couples the equal rights as heterosexual couples in matters of adoption and inheritance.
Thailand has long been known for its lively LGBTQ+ society and compassion, and opinion polls show that the country’s general public is strongly in favor of similar relationship.
Despite the advancement, some campaigners have criticized the new laws for not recognizing transgender and non-binary individuals who will still be able to change their gender on standard identification documents.

Since the Netherlands became the first in 2001, just Taiwan and Nepal have recognized marriage equality in Asia, which is the only other two nations that have legalized it.
In October, India was on the verge of legalizing relationship, but the Supreme Court remanded the decision to congress.
