According to three unknown officers, the Washington Post reported on Monday that two important Liberals in the US Congress have agreed to support a significant arms sales to Israel that includes 50 F-15 fighter jet worth more than$ 18 billion.
After the two politicians ‘ months of holding up the sale, the Post reported that Representative Gregory Meeks and Senator Ben Cardin have now signed the deal.
” Any issues or concerns Chair Cardin had were addressed through our ongoing consultations with the ( Biden ) Administration, and that’s why he felt it appropriate to allow this case to move forward”, Eric Harris, communications director for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told the Post in a statement.
Meeks informed the paper that he had been in frequent communication with the White House and that he had urged them to put pressure on Israel over philanthropic efforts and human casualties. According to the Post, he claimed the F-15s would n’t be delivered until “years from now.”
Neither lawmaker’s department responded quickly to a request for comment.
In response to Israel’s eight-month-old abuse on Gaza, which has resulted in the displacement of almost all 2.3 million Palestinians and the death of more than 37, 000 Palestinians, Biden has been under increasing pressure from people of his own Democratic party.
Biden has pressed for a cease-fire on both sides of the conflict.
