Election Integrity Groups Urge North Carolina To Pass Citizens-Only Voting Amendment

Before adjourning the following week, electoral integrity advocates are pressing the parliamentary leadership of North Carolina to complete a proposal to increase the protections against alien voting.

” North Carolinians want consistency, clarity, stability, and correctness in election management”, Jim Womack, chairman of the North Carolina Election Integrity Team, told The Federalist.

SB 630, which was introduced last year and was later carried over to the 2024 legislative session, aims to change the state of the North Carolina State Constitution to allow “only” U.S. people who are 18 years old and join current eligibility criteria to cast ballots in primaries. A companion bill ( HB 1074 ) was introduced in the House last month.

According to the establishment record of the Tarheel State, proposals for constitutional amendments need the backing of three-fifths of the House and Senate’s members before they can be approved.

The Senate Redistricting and Elections Committee on Thursday approved two more ideas to the costs, which may limit the state income tax to 5 % and need voter identification for all kinds of ballot. By expanding the requirement to include mail-in voting, the original provision do strengthen the state’s already-enforced legal requirements for electors to present ID when casting ballots in person. In North Carolina votes, laws requiring voter identification were passed in 2018 and 2019 and became effective last year after years of lengthy court problems.

Before going to the entire floor for a vote, SB 630 must then pass the Senate Committee’s Rules and Procedures before it can be passed. Womack claimed a committee co-chair had informed him that the bill” should” be taken into consideration by the committee on Monday.

According to what reports from Democratic Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger, the Senate is scheduled to reschedule at the end of the year, according to what is reported.

Womack argued that SB 630’s membership article” will remove all existing ambiguities about voting registration in the North Carolina Constitution,” which he noted “does no directly link citizenship to voting eligibility.”

According to Womack,” confidence in election results is equal to their belief of integrity of]quality ] election administration, which is substantially enhanced by evidently requiring U.S. citizenship for voting eligibility,”

Election Transparency Initiative ( ETI ) Chair Ken Cuccinelli also noted the importance of SB 630 in a statement issued last week, saying,” Only U. S. citizens should decide the outcome of U. S. elections—one person, one vote counted fairly and equally”.

The GOP-controlled General Assembly should adopt HB 770 before the 2024 treatment, according to the former Virginia solicitor general. That bill, according to ETI, “would require Cast Vote Records ( CVRs ) from tabulation machines be made publicly accessible, as they are in most states”. House Speaker last month passed HB 770, and the Senate Rules Committee is awaiting its decision.

We urge the General Assembly to go Senate Bill 630 and House Bill 770 without further delay, and to continue providing the clarity and confidence that every vote deserves, Cuccinelli said.

According to Bob Carlstrom, AMAC Action President, Womack and Cuccinelli’s notes “have made it clear that only qualified US citizens should be able to vote in our elections” and “recognize that this is a critical component of election dignity that may contribute to the trust of our elections.”

In addition to co- sponsoring SB 630’s companion bill, House Speaker Tim Moore, a Republican, has previously voiced support for amending the state constitution to ensure only U. S. citizens are voting in elections. Berger, the head of the Senate, reportedly supports the amendment.

When asked whether he would use his position as president pro tempore to ensure that Senate Bill 630 is approved before he adjourns the body the following week, Berger spokesman Randy Brechbiel stated to The Federalist that the upper chamber “intends to vote on Senate Bill 630 next week.”

    States Take Action

Efforts to prevent aliens from influencing American elections come amid Joe Biden ‘s&nbsp, manufactured invasion&nbsp, at the U. S. Mexico border and increasing concerns that foreign nationals could exploit&nbsp, existing federal loopholes&nbsp, to interfere in America’s electoral system.

Democrats have publicly pushed for the right to vote in U.S. elections despite media allies ‘ attempts to minimize these concerns. Democrats have made it abundantly clear where they stand on the issue, from blue cities that allow aliens to cast ballots in their elections to elected leftists who oppose attempts to repeal them.

Citizens for Citizen Voting, a grassroots organization, is working to change state constitutions across the nation so they include citizen-only voting language. As my colleague Matt Kittle previously reported, the group has experienced success in getting lawmakers in Wisconsin, &nbsp, Iowa, &nbsp, Kentucky, and&nbsp, Idaho to pass citizen- only voting amendments that” will go before voters this November”.

A similar amendment will also appear on South Carolina’s November ballot, according to Just the News. Louisiana and&nbsp, Ohio voters passed such proposals in 2022.
