Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, made the pledge to “unconditionally help” Russia in its invasion of Ukraine during discussions with President Vladimir Putin in Pyongyang, which stressed the need to deepen relationships amid US concerns about arms supply to the Kremlin’s combat system.

At a press briefing following the talks, Kim said,” I would like to emphasize that the birth of this agreement, the most effective agreement in the background of North Korea and Russia ties, was possible thanks to President Putin’s excellent foresight and bold determination.”
Kim stated that the military agreement is intended for defensive purposes, but it also raises the possibility that the US and its partners would react to threats from Moscow and Pyongyang in a diplomatic manner as a rebellion of Western powers.

Putin’s attend came just hours after Tuesday’s primary high-level security discussion between China and South Korea in roughly nine years. After the Russian decline and the rise of China as an economic strength, Beijing has been Pyongyang’s key patron. However, Kim and Putin’s increasingly close connection may be causing a restructuring.
