Kulsuma Akter, time 27, was killed while taking a walk through Bradford City Center when a nationwide manhunt came to an end earlier this year when Yorkshire authorities announced an arrest had been made in her stabbing death.
Habibur Masum, time 25, was detained by rules police in relation to the assault, along with an unknown 23- year- older male accomplice. According to BBC News, Masum was under parole after being accused of assaulting Akter on November 23, 2023, and of threatening to murder her on November 24, 2023.
Apparently, a state of his parole was that he have no contact or connections with Akter. In September, he was scheduled to make an appearance in court in response to the accusations.
Due to the circumstances surrounding the case and their prior interactions with the suspect and victim, Greater Manchester Police and the West Yorkshire force referred their investigation to the Independent Office for Police Conduct ( IOPC ).
While the relationship between Akter and Masum is questionable, Masum is believed to be the father of Akter’s baby, who was unharmed in the attack. Akter was actually from Bangladesh, and much of her home remains in the country, her aunt Aftab Miah told BBC News.
Miah stated that Akter had moved to the area around two years ago, describing her as” a wonderful lady … a good, humble, likeable person, a caring person. When I went to her house, she would often give me tea and biscuits. I’m going to lose her a lot.
Miah continued, saying that he had spoken with Aklers ‘ mother in Bangladesh and that she was” crying all the time.”
” All we want is fairness, little more”, Miah said. ” No punishment or whatever. Simply justice for our girl”.
In a statement, West Yorkshire Police confirmed the arrest and explained that the defendant’s home was receiving help.
This is a horrible incident in which a family has lost her life in the most tragic of conditions, according to Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Enquiry Team.
