Prince Harry recently explained the reasons behind his and Meghan Markle’s decision to relocate to the United States, revealing that they left to protect their” sanity” and physical well-being. In 2020, the pair resigned from their royal duties and relocated to Montecito, California, where they have since discussed the difficulties they encountered in the British royal family.
Prince Harry examines their intentions for the walk in his autobiography,” Spare,” while reflecting on a trip to Frogmore Cottage, which was once their hope for a permanent home. He recalled the depressing feelings he experienced when he returned from Prince Philip’s death.
” How lovely it all is, I thought. And also how terrible. This was going to get my long home, I suppose. Rather, it had proved to be just another small stop”, Harry wrote, expressing a profound sense of loss and shift.
Concerns for the child’s physical and mental protection led to their decision to leave the UK. Harry highlighted their fears, saying,” When my wife and I fled this place, in fear for our sanity and physical safety, I was n’t sure when I’d ever come back. That was January 2020. Then, fifteen months afterwards, here I was, days after waking to thirty- two missed calls and then one small, heart- racing talk with Granny: Harry… Grandpa’s gone”, as reported by the UK Mirror.
Since their walk to California, Prince Harry has returned to the UK on a few occasions, most recently for activities related to the Invictus Games. Meghan Markle, however, has seldom visited the UK since stepping up from imperial duties. Her previous visit was in 2022 for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, where she and Harry attended with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Author Omid Scobie, in his text” Endgame”, discusses Meghan’s reluctance to return to the UK. Meghan “never wants to set foot in England,” he says, adding that she did n’t want to re-enter the royal court’s intense scrutiny and drama.
Their need to promote their mother’s security and mental health dominated their move to America. They maintain links to the UK while adjusting to their new home in California.
