Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabry praised the UK government’s decision to keep the LTTE on the prohibited list, claiming that it will foil every attempt by the original armed party to resurrect its island state. In a post on the social media platform X, Sabry claimed that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam’s ( LTTE ) international network’s plan and strategy is to deproscrib it so that they can resurrect the organization.
According to Sabry in his article on X, the UK government ‘ decision to continue with Sri Lanka’s LTTE is a step backwards from their plans to revive them there.
He continued,” The LTTE’s global show’s technique and strategy is to persuade foreign governments to deproscrib the LTTE so that they can resurrect it.”
The UK’s forbidden organizations appeals commission announced on June 21 that it had rejected the LTTE’s use of the original armed group, which had ruled out a separate Tamil homeland in the north and east of the country.
The LTTE remains banned in Sri Lanka, India, the UK, the USA, Canada, Malaysia and EU countries.
In order to promote the Norway-led peace process, Sri Lanka initially outlawed the LTTE in 1998 before revoked its prohibition in 2002.
The restrictions was reinstated in 2008 after talks broke down and conflicts resumed.
In middle- May 2009 the team was fully defeated in the administration’s defense campaign which lasted under 3 decades.
The LTTE operated a parallel state in some areas of the north and east from the mid-1980s until their destruction in 2009;
