McALLEN, Texas ( Frontier Report )— A woman from Mission, Texas, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for importing cocaine from Mexico at a South Texas port of entry, U. S. Attorney Alamdar Hamdani said Monday.
Brenda Bazaldua- Mariscal, 41, pleaded innocent on May 22 to drug smuggling, Hamdani said.
According to law enforcement, Bazaldua-Mariscal drove into the Pharr Port of Entry on August 12, 2021 before a cat system received an odor of marijuana.
The front bumper of the vehicle was discovered to have a “non-factory chamber containing 16 packs of cocaine” on it. The drugs total 18 grams and had an estimated street value of$ 234, 000, Hamdani said.
Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane placed her on probation for 120 weeks, followed by five years of supervised transfer. Crane noted that she had recently received a 5-year word for drug trafficking when she passed the word.
