The Indian-born physician Dharmesh Patel, who was accused of consciously driving his car off a 330-foot rock, will not go on trial because he was given a mental health escape after major depressive disorder evidence was established. After driving the car off a rock at Devil’s area in San Mateo county next year, Patel entered a not-guilty plea to three counts of attempted murder. Inside the vehicle were his wife and two children, aged 4 and 7 at that time. All four of them survived.
His family recently argued for his release and claimed that she and her children require him. It was previously reported that Dharmesh reportedly drove off the mountain because he believed his children may be trafficked for intercourse. Patel felt like the universe was caving in because of Russia’s war in Ukraine, the fentanyl problems, child sex trafficking, and Jeffery Epstein, according to prosecutors. His partner informed prosecutors that he had sent her news reports on those subjects, and he had trouble falling asleep at night.
He would be locked up for a few more weeks before being released to his parents ‘ house, as it stands right now.
According to a media release from the district attorney’s office, Judge Susan Jakubowski stated that Patel was ready for a mental wellness diversion because of his situation and that a proposed treatment plan may address his needs.
The jury determined that the defendant was appropriate and granted the defense’s request for mental health diversion, according to the release’s statement.
According to District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe, the district attorney’s office “intensely” opposed Patel’s mental health escape and requested that the court take him to test for the three counts of attempted death. ” But under California‘s escape laws, the jury makes the decision”, Wagstaffe said. Additionally, the court has mandated that Patel turn in his driver’s license and passport and submits to court once per week for progress reports, checks twice per year” to show medicine compliance,” and abstain from alcohol and drugs.
Patel did return to court on July 1 where particulars of his release may get determined, per Wagstaffe.
