Massachusetts Tells Migrants at the Border Not to Come Because State Shelters Are Full

I do n’t think Joe Biden’s executive order, which was supposed to close the border to asylum seekers, is doing much.

Gov. Maura Healey ( D- Mass. ) sent some of her leading aides to a number of Texas cities where they went to migrant shelters and made clear instructions to border guards and other non-governmental organizations to keep people from the Bay State because the shelters were overflowing.

    L. Scott Rice, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel general, stated in a statement that” this trip is an important opportunity to meet with people who are coming into the U.S. and the organizations that work with them at the border to make sure they have appropriate information about the lack of house area in Massachusetts.” Rice was chosen to lead the state’s overloaded house system.

According to him,” It is crucial that we let people know that our homes are full so that they can plan appropriately to ensure they have a safe place to go.”

Another Democratic Party officers have visited the border, including New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. Additionally, they pleaded with Organizations to refrain from contacting any more workers.

A lot of good things happened for them.

    Politico:

Under a decades-old “right-to-head” law, similar to a New York City rule, Massachusetts is required to offer emergency housing to poor families and female people. Healey opened overflowing shelters for the hundreds of families still without homes and worked to expedite the issuance of work permits for immigrants just arrived in the state as the state’s resources grew more and more strained. In October, he also capped the number of emergency shelters at 7,500 families. There are now 7, 379 families in homes and 413 housed in overflowing places.

In accordance with a mandate from the state legislature to reduce emergency shelter costs that are expected to be close to$ 1 billion this fiscal year and next if the rate of new families seeking shelter persists, her administration is also scheduled to begin enforcing nine-month time limits on shelter stays.

    The document continues:

Healey and state legislators have both begged and berated Congress regarding immigration, calling on them to complete a frontier bill that would stop the flow of immigrants into the country while sending funds to the states that have been hardest hit by the crisis, like Massachusetts. However, congressional Republicans have shown no reluctance to compromise a bipartisan deal that may give Biden a significant win on one of the most important issues in the election.

The bipartisan bill passed last February probably would n’t have significantly reduced illegal immigration, as we’re seeing with Biden’s executive order’s futility to stop the flow of migrants into the United States. It’s difficult to predict what it might have meant for border security in the future, but reducing asylum seekers has n’t had a significant impact on the immediate issue of border crossers.

More than 331 families left in May, the administration reported, which is the highest quantity in years.” The number of families leaving the EA structure has rapidly increased every month,” the management reported.

With almost 8, 000 people in the tents, Healey has a long way to go to address the problem.
