Since President Joe Biden took executive action earlier this month to prevent refugees from seeking prison, illegal immigration at the southern border with Mexico has drastically decreased.
The Biden administration took a victory lap Wednesday as it announced a 40 % drop in illegal immigrant detention at the U. S. Mexico borders following its first June , ban , on asylum- applicants.
” Across the whole southern border, Border Patrol contacts have dropped by over 40 %”, said Alejandro Mayorkas, Department of Homeland Security minister, during a press conference in Tucson, Arizona, Wednesday. ” We are removing more noncitizens without a legal basis to be here.”
Less than 2,400 illegal immigrants were arrested per day during the past seven days, compared to around 4, 000 earlier this month, which is a decrease of about 2,400.
” Three weeks ago, in the face of parliamentary silence, Biden used his executive authority and suspended the entry of noncitizens across the southern border”, said Mayorkas, who was  , impeached , by the House earlier this year for his handling of the border crisis. We are imposing stricter sanctions on those who cross the border without license. These steps are altering the equation for those considering crossing our borders.
DHS has conducted planes to bring unlawful immigrants back to their home countries at a higher rate than before the executive order rather than releasing them into the country. More than 100 planes to 20 countries have disembarked, resulting in 24, 000 persons repatriated.
After Republicans accused him of deliberate and widespread failing to follow the rules and , a violation of the people believe related to a border problems that started in the early 2021, Mayorkas was indicted by the House in February.
Republicans have criticized the administrative action because it goes beyond Biden’s authority to regulate immigration, which is done by the legislative branch, no the executive branch. After that, Biden made plans to grant new pathways to independence to illegal immigrants who are married to U.S. people, which caused the GOP to denounce the move as an “amnesty.”
Only Congress can come up with a comprehensive and sustained option. Just Congress, through legislation, can correct what people would agree is a broken immigration system that was last updated nearly 30 times ago”, said Mayorkas.
Biden, who is up for reelection in the first professional action earlier this month, blatantly blamed Republicans who had refused to pass a Senate border costs for his choice.
The professional order and two regulations issued by the Department of Justice and DHS may enable federal law enforcement to eradicate immigrants as quickly as they cross into the country illegally and are apprehended.
This enables federal authorities to remove people who do n’t pass the screening process from the country by making it much harder for immigrants in government custody to seek asylum.

A senior administration official who briefed reporters on Tuesday morning said that migrants will be brought back house within” a matter of days, if no time.” Workers who express fear of being returned to their home country will be subject to a” considerably higher regular” than the level used to determine their eligibility for prison.
If the average number of migrants border patrol agents apprehended between ports of entry is above 2, 500 detention per day, the prison restrictions will remain in effect in accordance with the new protocols. If the common seven-day regular falls below 1, 500 apprehensions per day for at least two weeks, the ban will only be lifted.
