Russia starts secret trial of US scribe for spying

US blogger Evan Gershkovich was deposed on Wednesday in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg on espionage charges and a potential 20-year prison sentence.
The Wall Street Journal writer, according to the prosecution, allegedly obtained key information about a Russian company that manufactures tank for Russia’s aggression in Ukraine at the US CIA’s orders. The allegations are disproven by Gershkovich, his news, and the US government, who allege that he was merely carrying out his duties as a writer with the permission of the foreign ministry. The Kremlin declined to comment.
The court announced that the next session may take place on August 13 after many hours of closed session.
