Massachusetts abandons airport migrant shelter solution: ‘Not an appropriate place’

As Massachusetts begins to house migrants in a taxpayer-funded crisis service, illegal immigrants will no longer be able to camp in Boston’s Logan International Airport. &nbsp,

Gov. Maura Healey ( D- MA ) broke the news on Friday, saying that effective July 9, migrants will be banned from sheltering in the state’s largest airport. Otherwise, the sanctuary state will transport people to a Norfolk facility that is funded by the taxpayer. In a previous minimum-security prison hospital, Massachusetts is establishing an incident shelter that will provide 450 people.

The state’s emergency assistance director, Scott Rice, said in a statement that” the airport is not an appropriate place for people to seek shelter” .&nbsp, Instead, Rice touted the development of the Norfolk sheltering facility as “progress”, saying it makes it possible to “end the practice of families staying overnight in the airport” .&nbsp, It is unclear how much the facility will cost.

In a press release announcing the determination, Healey reiterated a warning to migrants at the southern border that they should never enter Massachusetts without a strategy for cover because the condition has been “out of sanctuary space.”

According to the release,” We are going to continue to spread the word that families moving to Massachusetts need to have a housing plan that does n’t include our Emergency Assistance shelters or Logan Airport.”

Healey sent a express group to Texas to issue a warning to migrants crossing the southern border against entering Massachusetts. &nbsp,

Rice referred to the journey as” an significant opportunity to meet with people arriving in the U.S. and the organizations that work with them at the frontier to make sure they have appropriate information about the lack of house area in Massachusetts.”

In the upcoming fiscal year, the state intends to spend$ 915 million on emergency immigrant cover. A majority of Massachusetts citizens were opposed to providing taxpayer-funded cover to immigrants in a poll conducted by the Fiscal Alliance Foundation in February.

It is unclear how many unlawful immigrants are in Massachusetts. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, there is no” complete matter” of workers in the position.

Between 2010 and 2021, Massachusetts’s improper expat community grew by around 120, 000. Data from 2020 is excluded from that number. In 2022, the state saw near to 18, 000 prison files. Between October 2022 and September 2023, the Healey management tracked an additional&nbsp, 11, 000 workers, marking a&nbsp, 152 % increase over the past fiscal year. &nbsp,

The Washington Examiner reached up to Healey’s department for opinion. &nbsp,
