NEW YORK: It is becoming more and more apparent in the Democratic Party leadership that the mayor’s disturbing debate performance from earlier this week is not being taken seriously enough. Several of the party’s most powerful people were gathered on Saturday evening to meet with DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison and other council members from across the nation. He did not acknowledge Biden’s lackluster performance on Thursday evening or the subsequent wave of criticism.
Many council members on the phone described feeling as though they were being gaslighted and that they were being asked to dismiss the party’s dire circumstances. They were given anonymity to discuss the secret discussion. The telephone, they said, perhaps have worsened a pervasive sense of panic among elected leaders, donors and other participants.
Otherwise, the people said, Harrison offered what they described as a red analysis of Biden’s way forward. There were no inquiries allowed, and the chat function was impaired.
Some donors, party planners, and rank-and-file DNC users are speaking out loud and personally to let the party to choose a younger alternative for the 81-year-old Biden at the Democratic National Convention in August. However, Biden’s closest friends insist that he is still in a good position to face Democratic Donald Trump and that they have no way to pressure him to put an end to his plan.
Vice President Kamala Harris, California governor Gavin Newsom, and Michigan government are the best candidates to take his place. After the discussion, Gretchen Whitmer and others reaffirmed their help for Biden.
Many people are eagerly awaiting the first big round of public opinion polls to determine their subsequent steps.
Shortly after the conversation, elections from CNN and 538/Ipsos discovered that the majority of debate-watchers believed Trump outperformed Biden. However, the two men’s favorability ratings largely unchanged following Trump’s faith for allegedly influencing the 2016 election with his involvement in a hush money scheme.
In a later MSNBC look, Harrison downplayed the value of the meeting visit, which he claimed was part of a regularly scheduled conversation” to talk about the state of the race” and the future national agreement with the DNC’s numerous nominated members across the country.
In the times since Thursday’s conversation, in which the president, who already had critical issues about his physical and mental strength, offered a performance punctuated by repeated stumbles, nervous pauses, and a peaceful talking style that was frequently difficult to understand, Biden and his strategy have sought to project confidence.
The Biden campaign released a memo from senior adviser Jen O’Malley Dillon shortly after the DNC call on Saturday, insuring that the debate had no real impact on the outcome.
” On every metric that matters, data shows it did nothing to alter the American people’s perception,” according to O’Malley Dillon,” and our supporters are more up than ever, and Donald Trump only reminded voters of why they fired him four years ago and failed to expand his appeal beyond his MAGA base.”
She continued,” If polling changes in the upcoming weeks, it wo n’t be the first time that overblown media stories have caused temporary declines in the polls.”
Meanwhile, Biden spent much of Saturday courting wealthy donors in New York’s famed wealthy enclave of the Hamptons.
” I did n’t have a great night, but neither did Trump”, Biden said of the debate at one gathering in East Hampton.
Of Trump, Biden said,” The big takeaway was his lies”.
Trump, meanwhile, gloated about Biden’s performance at a rally Friday and suggested on his social media platform Saturday that Biden had faded” under tremendous pressure”.
