The Washington DC deputy mayor of Washington, DC, was contacted by a George Washington University associate vice president because of the protesters ‘ growing problem of “violence” at the campus ‘ pro-Hamas camp.
Assistant Vice President for Government and Community Relations Renee McPhatter addressed DC Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice Lindsey Appiah last month about a number of “provocative” instances in messages obtained by The Hatchet through the Freedom of Information Act.
The George Washington statue at the school, which pro-Hamas protesters had decorated with a Israeli flag and keffiyeh, was a major factor, among other things.
McPhatter noted a counter- rebel had snatched the flag and “attempt]ed ] to left” the camp, but finally was stopped by authorities.
Additionally, McPhatter noted that” a group of parents and alumni planned to visit the encampment” to restore the statue’s original state ( The Hatchet could not confirm this claim ), and that she was concerned about an “electronic billboard truck” that toured around campus displaying pro-Israel messages.
These emails included” Scarring evidence of Hamas cruelty revealed” and” Jewish kids, you are not only.”
In contrast, pro- Gaza activists were angered when past Army ( Israel Defense Forces ) soldier Rudy Rochman visited their camp. Rochman remained” stone-faced” and hardly responded to activists ‘ insults like” settler, settler go back home” and” I do n’t think liberation looks like a f*cking IOF soldier on our campus,” according to The Hatchet.
A counter-protester yelled” Get off my campus!” in the most recent incident reported by McPhatter ( pictured ). As many pro- Palestinian protesters approached the person, one yelled out” Would n’t participate with Zionists”.
Following the police’s inspection of the pro-Hamas camp on May 8, DC Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith echoed McPhatter regarding the presence of counter-protesters and noted that this was the motivation behind the determination to tear down the camp.
However, that very night, DC police arrested over Hamas 30 activists on suspicion of “unlawful access and assault of a police officer.” In addition, Smith cited reports of “protesters from other schools traveling to GW” and ( pro- Hamas ) activists preparing “offensive and defensive weapons”.
Pro-Hamas activists demanded that school officials remain “executed on guillotines” the weekend before the GWU camp was shut lower.
” Bracey, Bracey, we see you! You also rape individuals. Off to the motherf*cking guillotine with you”, shouted one lecturer, referring to Provost Christopher Bracey. ” Guilty! Guillotine! Guillotine! Guillotine”!
