The exclusive Washington Post is in turmoil and owner Jeff Bezos is under pressure to alter its money-losing methods. The Post’s controlling director immediately resigned, a chosen leader withdrew under fireplace, and a manager has been targeted in the paper’s columns.
Briton William Lewis, the” WaPo “‘s new CEO, was given a mission by Amazon’s founder Bezos when he was appointed in the autumn of last year. Lewis was asked to move around a news that, despite work breaks and the removal of its Sunday supplement, still aces Pulitzer Prizes 50 years later than it did after the Watergate incident. But, the former columnist, who made history in the 2000s with a shovel on the costs of British MPs when he was director of the Daily Telegraph, is finding his position extremely vulnerable.
When he was employed by the Murdoch mother’s liberal media group about 12 years ago, in a scandal of improper telephone tapping by the news The News of the World, revelations have been surfacing for several weeks. On Friday, Lewis was at the heart of an inspection by his own editors. According to the Washington Post, he gave the go- away in 2011 for the loss of thousands of emails, fuelling suspicions that he was destroying information, which he denies.
According to Northeastern University media professor Dan Kennedy, the scandal is “poking the environment at a long-vaunted news that is” not doing well economically” as the US presidential election draws near.
The Post was one of the reliable news sources who benefited from the trauma that marked Trump’s four years in office, which ended with his defeat to Joe Biden. Few compelling reports could have been written to keep visitors interested despite Trump’s exit from the White House. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Post may include 2.5 million users by the end of 2022, up from 3 million when Biden took office in early 2021.
However, rival New York Times has grown to more than 10 million subscribers, the fruits of a strategy to expand into joy topics such as games, foods, and life while also serving up painful news.
Because of his lack of confidence in the Post’s management, Professor Kennedy thinks Lewis has no choice but to leave.
