
Two motorcyclists killed in a flaming chain- effect fall on , Interstate 5 , near , Camp Pendleton , on Thursday day were lively duty sailors, the , U. S. Navy , confirmed Friday.
The couple were riding south on the 5 Freeway shortly after , 3 a. m.  , when they and two different drivers crashed into other cars that had crashed, the , California Highway Patrol , said.
For reasons still to be determined, the drivers of a Jeep Wrangler lost command on the eastbound side of the 5 Freeway, veered off the bridge and hit a shield rail near , Las Pulgas Road. The car was finally disabled on the side of the road, according to Officer , Jake Sanchez , with the CHP.
Soon after, a vehicle in a , Mercedes- Benz Sprinter van , crashed into the , Jeep , and rejected onto its edge. That’s when the four drivers following behind crashed into the truck and , Jeep. The ensuing collapse set off a blaze, according to officials.
Three of the four drivers were killed, the CHP said. Two of them were seamen based in , Southern California, according to , U. S. Navy , Public Affairs Officer , Brian O’Rourke.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. The brands of the accident victims have not yet been released by the , San Diego County , Medical Examiner’s Office.
