The , U. S.  , and Spanish governments have entered into negotiations to maintain a two- plus- two unusual and security ministerial meeting in , Manila , in soon July, it has been learned.
According to sources close to the matter, the two nations intend to sign the General Security of Military Information Agreement ( GSOMIA ) in order to exchange highly sensitive information.
The shift is aimed at countering , China, which has been taking harmful actions against , the Philippines , in the , South China Sea, by strengthening surveillance cooperation between the two countries.
In the area around the Second Thomas Shoal, which is essentially controlled by , the Philippines, Foreign Coast Guard (CCG) boats have consistently fired water guns and collided with Spanish vessels, escalating conflicts.
On , June 17, a CCG send collided with a , Philippine Naval , vehicle, severely injuring a part of the military.
As an alliance of , the Philippines,  , the United States , is obliged to help defend the country and is afraid that , China ‘s , activities might lead to a fight between the nations ‘ forces.  , The United States , aims to put , China , in check by becoming more concerned in , the Philippines, the publications said.
The anticipated two- plus- two appointment may be attended by Secretary of State , Antony Blinken , and Secretary of Defense , Lloyd Austin , from , the United States, and Secretary of Foreign Affairs , Enrique Manalo , and Secretary of National Defense , Gilberto Teodoro , from , the Philippines. The two countries are considering issuing a combined statement, according to the resources.
Spanish President , Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also hopes to consolidate his country’s marriage with , Washington, the sources said.
