Brazilian national authorities on Thursday publicly accused former president Jair Bolsonaro of larceny for misappropriating jewelry, including luxury items given by the Saudi Arabian state, according to two officers options.
This is the next day Bolsonaro has been specifically accused of a crime by authorities. In March, he was accused of falsifying the data for his COVID-19 vaccination.
Authorities last month searched the houses of military commanders in an inspection led by Supreme Court Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who allegedly assisted Bolsonaro in selling some of the jewelry in the United States.
Justice Moraes claimed that the things had been sold and that no sales had been made at the time.
When it was discovered in the handbag of a government staffer returning from Riyadh in October 2021, customs officers seized some of the bracelets, which was a present for the former first lady, at Sao Paulo’s international airports.
One of Bolsonaro’s government ministers called Bolsonaro’s behavior” smuggling,” and Bolsonaro’s communist leader, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, demanded an investigation.
G1 News reported earlier on Thursday that Bolsonaro had been publicly accused by police.
