Rebecca Joynes, a 30-year-old English teacher, was given a six and a half year jail term for having a baby with one of her students and engaging in sexual activity with two teenage students on Thursday. Beginning at the age of 15, Joynes, a great athlete with a promising career, cultivated inappropriate relationships with both guys, identified as Boy A and Boy B, and continued to engage in sexual activity with them despite being on police loan.
When she started dating Boy B, Joynes became pregnant and gave birth to a baby with him, she had previously been on authorities bail for her actions with Boy A. Within 24 days of giving birth, the baby was taken from her attention. She was found guilty of six counts of physical exercise with a baby, two of which occurred while she was in a trust relationship.
Judge Kate Cornell told Joynes she had displayed “breathtaking ignorance,” and she was sentenced to a life sentence at Manchester Crown Court in northwest England.
” You were the person in control, the person who may have known better”, Judge Cornell said. ” Rather, you abused that position of trust and exploited the wealthy responsibility for your own physical enjoyment”.
Before biologically engaging with the boys, the boys ‘ parents explained how Joynes had groomed them via social media communications. While on parole, the police investigation revealed that she had forgotten to make explicit warnings not to have uncontrolled contact with anyone under the age of 18.
Boy B provided a statement to the court saying he had been” coerced and controlled, manipulated, sexually abused, and mentally abused” by Joynes.
Detective Constable Beth Alexander, speaking outside the courtroom, highlighted the broader concern of adult victims of sexual crimes. She noted that dangerous rhetoric is generally perpetuated because society frequently ignores the role that men and boys can play.
They have read comments that claim other people are “jealous” of them and that a young woman teacher is “happy” with their interests, according to Alexander, who said it is “very detrimental and dangerous.”
” People can still be paedophiles. This phrase applies to all people, no just people. Men and boys can still be patients of physical abuse”, she emphasized.
