Vienna: The believe in the intended death in May of Slovakia’s nationalist prime minister, Robert Fico, is presently facing evil charges as part of an investigation by authorities, the government’s counsel- general said Thursday.
The suspect, identified just as JC, was initially charged with attempted murder. The change in the charges is based on the evidence the investigators obtained, according to prosecutor-general MaroS ilinka, who did n’t immediately provide more details.
Initial reports from the government that it was a “lone wolf” attack were false, but later it was revealed that a” third party” might have been involved in “acting for the benefit of the perpetrator” were made public.
Fico has been recuperating at home from several injuries he sustained during the assassination attempt on May 15 when he was shot in the abdomen as he welcomed followers in the city of Handlova.
The attacker was instantly detained, and a judge gave him a stay in jail.
Fico has long been a controversial figure in Slovakia and elsewhere. After campaigning on a pro-Russia and anti-American message, he won the legislative election for the third time next year. His leftist group Smer, or Direction, won the campaign.
His detractors worry that under Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Slovakia might leave its pro-West strategy.
In the capital and throughout Slovakia, thousands have gathered at various rallies to rally Fico’s guidelines.
