Gov. On Wednesday, Ron DeSantis stated that Florida” did certainly comply” with Vivek Murthy’s assertion that gun violence is a problem with the public health.
Murthy, the world’s leading doctor, issued the expert Tuesday as the U. S. grapples with growing numbers of deaths and injuries involving weapon. He advocated for a comprehensive approach to nicotine and motor vehicle incidents.
In a , movie announcing the expert, Murthy said that 54 % of U. S. people report that they or a family member have experienced a firearm- related event. He made the observation that the death toll rate for British children and adolescents is due to rifle violence.
A moment before Murthy’s expert, residents of New Tampa , crowded into a community centre to increase concerns , about a current ability of murders in the area, including one Friday on New Tampa Boulevard that left two dying.
Murthy also advocated for stricter regulations on the weapons business, universal background checks, a ban on assault weapons, and increased federal funding for research on gun crime prevention.
The doctor basic could enforce those recommendations. Congress may need legislation to implement the ideas nationwide.
While some express legislature may consider Murthy’s ideas, DeSantis on Wednesday said Florida” did never agree”.
In a , article on X, the government said Murthy “is attempting to offend the Second Amendment through the’ open health ‘ bureaucracy”.
He cited the federal government’s reaction to the COVID-19 epidemic and claimed that “unelected officials used public health as a pretext to rob people of their right”.
” I believe the governor’s article speaks for itself”, Jeremy Redfern, press secretary for the mayor’s office, said when asked to develop on DeSantis ‘ position.
The National Rifle Association rejected the consulting, too.
” This is an expansion of the Biden administration’s war on regulation- following gun owners”, Randy Kozuch, senior director of the organization,  , said in a statement on X.
” America has a crime problem caused by criminals”, he said. President ( Joe ) Biden and many of his allies ‘ reluctance to prosecute and punish criminals is the main reason for that, according to the statement.
Murthy claimed that people with direct experience are also affected by the effects of firearm violence. He claimed that there are “wider ripples of harm” for those who witness the violence, live in neighborhoods frequently affected by it, or read about it in the news.
” Firearm violence is a public health crisis”, Murthy said. Our inability to address it is a moral crisis, they say.
