President Joe Biden slammed the election security measure while promising to “fight” for” safe votes,” as congressional Democrats are gearing up to oppose regulations that may require proof of membership to register to vote. On Wednesday, the House will voting on the act.
Why would anyone who claims to like” safe votes” oppose a bill that merely establishes a method to maintain the country’s current election restrictions? The bill protects against votes challenges that Biden’s unwillingness to maintain America’s southern frontier has made worse because he allowed in almost as many illegal immigrants in less than four times as Ellis Island legalized over 60 years.
Elon Musk, the owner of Billionaire X, said on Sunday night that the only cause Democrats may oppose the bill is “because they want to steal.”
The 1993 National Voter Registration Act made it possible for people with pilot’s licenses to cast ballots through position motor vehicle organizations without providing any evidence of membership. The Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility ( SAVE ) Act would amend the 1993 Constitution by requiring supporting documentation of citizenship in order to register to cast ballots.
Democrats contend that the bill is pointless because it already makes it illegal for foreigners to cast ballots or signup to cast ballots in federal elections. However, a little square box that a noncitizen must check to make sure they are verifying their citizenship status is the only thing that prevents them from casting ballot in a national election.
In other words, our votes hinge on the honor system.
Another problem with the 1993 rules is that, as a spokeswoman for the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services told The Federalist, the office, as well as the state’s Medicaid company, “is mandated to provide voter registration data under Section 7 of the National Voter Registration Act”, as my partner M. D. Kittle reported. The information is sent” to everyone applying for the benefits, including foreign nationals”. According to Kittle, one refugee “reported receiving voter registration forms at the Health and Human Services office,” citing a story that state representative Adam Morgan told. The refugee” sent the documents back to the organization,” which then” sent the foreigner more voter registration information.”
Any potential aliens who register to vote would be caught under the SAVE Act.
Democrats — or, as Musk described those who oppose the legislation,” traitors” — are “bringing out the big guns” to fight the legislation, Axios reported. House Democrats were instructed to “VOTE NO” on the bill by House Minority Whip Katherine Clark. According to Clark’s office, the bill would “prevent Americans from voting with their drivers ‘ license alone” and would make a passport the “only acceptable standalone form of identification,” according to Axios.
The erroneous assumption that driver’s licenses are sufficient to stop ineligible people from registering to vote supports Clark’s argument.
However, many states provide driver’s licenses or privilege cards to legitimately present foreigners and even illegal aliens. What’s more, failing a driver’s license verification does n’t stop a person from registering to vote.
Under the 2002 Help America Vote Act ( HAVA ), states must verify certain “information of newly registered voters for Federal elections”, according to the Social Security Administration. States must verify the applicant’s driver’s license number with the state’s Motor Vehicle Administration database. But if an individual lacks a driver’s license number, he can use the last four digits of his Social Security Number, name, and date of birth. As with driver’s licenses, verifying a registrant’s SSN does not necessarily confirm his citizenship since foreign nationals can also obtain those.
What about individuals who ca n’t provide a driver’s license number or an SSN? In California, for example, those who do not have a driver’s license or Social Security number can simply register to vote with their gym membership, among other insecure documentation options. The Federalist also compared public records from North Carolina, which appear to show thousands of additional voters who have been added to the rolls since January despite their records showing no SSN or driver’s license identification number being provided.
Instead of relying on weak election laws that let thousands of voters fall through the cracks, the SAVE Act would address these issues by requiring voters to present documentary proof of citizenship when registering to vote.
