Employees at Delta Air Lines apologized after using the company’s social media accounts to claim they would get “terrified” if they saw a Delta flight attendant wearing a Israeli flag button.
A Delta director stated in an emailed statement that a mistaken opinion on X Wednesday was removed because it was in conflict with our ideals and our mission to join the world.
The spokesperson added that the commenter will no longer remain in charge of the social media pages.
The spokesperson stated that the crew member accountable for the blog has been counseled and no longer supports Delta’s social media accounts. ” We apologize for this problem”.
The now-deleted responses were in response to a Tuesday article on X by consumer @iliketeslas. Two photos were taken of Israeli flag-bearing flight attendants serving people in the symbol pins. The original post equated the Israeli flag button to a” Hamas badge,” with Hamas being the militant force that controls Gaza and has been labeled a terrorist organization.
Photos show Delta replied in a remark the next day:” I hear you and I’d be terrified as also, individually. Our staff reflect our lifestyle, and we take it seriously when our policies are not being followed.
Delta also stated on another social media post that the business may look into the bolts being worn.
” Nothing to stress, this is being investigated now, particularly the included celebrations”, it read.
Delta’s consideration later deleted the responses. Although the spokesperson said it was split flights on different time, the flight declined to identify where the pictures were taken.
Some people have been calling for a boycott of Delta and the company have been affected by the condition, with some calling for the comments to be anti-Palestinian online.
The steering committee for the Delta AFA union, which represents flight attendants, harshly criticized the business for the saved responses in a , email sent to Delta CEO Ed Bastian on Thursday.
” The ( committee ) underscores that these incidents reflect a repeated failure by Delta management to stand up for flight attendants”, the letter said.
The letter described the destroyed articles as “bigoted and aggressive” and said that the posts, “regardless of authority acceptance, represent our flight to the planet”. In the email, the union called for better social media tolerance, a public explanation from Delta, and a ban on non-consensual photo of team members.
The letter stated that” these incidents call for a social media moderation and feedback process that also guarantees the safety and integrity of team members.”
The spokeswoman did not immediately respond to inquiries about regulations governing flight attendant pins, but the coalition email claims pins have been used for decades to honor the crew’s varied history.
Before the airline’s response, the Council on American-Islamic Relations ( CAIR ), the nationwide civil rights and advocacy group, called on Delta to apologize for the deleted comments.
Whether or not this offensive article on Delta’s X consideration was authorized or not, the company may forgive and help educate its employees about this dangerous anti-Palestinian racism, according to CAIR in a media release.
Following the explanation, CAIR said in a news release that it “welcomed an explanation from Delta Air Lines” for the now-deleted content.
