According to a recent Pew Research Center surveys, former US President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden by 4-points among listed voters. The survey, which included more than 7, 000 individuals, also revealed that less than a third of Americans perceive Biden as “mentally sharp”.
In a direct matchup, Trump maintains a slight advantage over Biden, with 50 % support compared to Biden’s 47 %. Trump has a slight improvement over last year, when he led by a margin of 49 % to 48 %.
The surveys found a significant gap in how people perceive mental acuity between the two individuals. While 58 % of voters described Trump as “mentally sharp”, only 24 % held the same view of Biden. This is a significant decline for the president, who rated this trait at 54 % in March 2021.
The poll, which was conducted between July 1 and July 7, was conducted in response to Biden’s subpar achievement in the June 27 debate against Trump. It is prompted by growing questions from Democrats about whether the president is mentally fit and whether he will be able to win a second term in November.
These reprehensions were made even more so by Biden’s most new blunder at the Nato conference, in which he incorrectly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as” President Putin.”
Despite Trump’s lead in the poll, Biden fared better in terms of perceived honesty, with 48 % of voters finding him honest compared to 36 % for Trump.
However, a larger proportion of voters ( 64 % ) considered Trump to be “mean-spirited”, while only 31 % held the same view of Biden. Ironically, both individuals were likewise seen as “embarrassing” by 63 % of the registered voters surveyed.
