Republicans have hardened their established policies on , border , safety and , immigration , with a new framework for protection if President Donald Trump returning to the White House in 2025.
An examination of the Republican National Committee programs for 2016 and 2024 revealed a change in the GOP’s positions at the time.
Under President Joe Biden, the region has seen more unlawful immigration than any other two-term management, according to GOP allies who referred to the change in communication and tougher policies as intended to coincide with the situation.
” It is definitely a representation of what is happening at the frontier right now”, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), the president for the RNC’s system committee, said in an exam. ” Under Joe Biden, you have had about 10 million illegal aliens come into the state, and people are living this”.
Former Democratic presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign claimed that the doubling down was a strong answer to how the frontier has fared under Biden.
Trump campaign nationwide media director Karoline Leavitt said in a speech,” Joe Biden’s Border Bloodbath has made it has made it has made it more important than ever to handle our frontier safety.”
The differences between the two systems were” apparent change of voice and attention,” according to Simon Hankinson of the traditional Heritage Foundation think container in Washington, which adopts a “more serious, harder line” approach.
” In 2021, Biden soon undid every one of Trump’s effective border policies using professional purchases, with no maintenance for the effects”, Hankinson, senior research fellow at the Border Security and Immigration Center at Heritage, said. ” A second Trump administration would bring those policies back, and more besides, to restore control of the border and immigration” . ,
Ford O’Connell, a former Trump White House adviser, said the new platform’s top two priorities are border security and illegal immigration, demonstrating to voters what his intentions are.
” The 2016 Republican Platform provided a comprehensive, high-level outline of America First principles”, O’Connell wrote in an email. ” In contrast, the 2024 GOP Platform presents 20 clear and focused America First policy initiatives that Trump plans to prioritize if re-elected”.
The 20 principles include” seal the border, and stop the migrant invasion”,” carry out the largest deportation operation in American history”, and” stop the migrant crime epidemic, demolish the foreign drug cartels, crush gang violence, and lock up violent offenders”.
Similar features of the two platforms include constructing and finishing border wall construction, preventing federal funding for sanctuary cities that cooperate with immigration authorities, and ensuring the security of illegal immigrants entering the country from the border.  ,
Additionally, it advocated for better protections for victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants, whereas the new proposal calls for a complete stop to migrant releases into the United States as well as a stop to “migrant crime.”
The previous agenda included reforming guest worker programs, as well as requiring E-Verify, a federal system that allows employers to verify new hires ‘ legal status at work. The new plan would end policies that favor family members of immigrants who are admitted to the United States over those who are already immigrants, and give rise to new legal immigration based on skill sets.
Some of the policy changes to legal immigration, according to David Bier of the libertarian Cato Institute think tank in Washington, were improvements, but one of the biggest changes was the anti-immigrant sentiment seen throughout this year’s version.
” The latest platform has nothing positive to say about immigrants”, Bier, Cato’s director of immigration studies, wrote in an email. ” Explicitly saying that they plan to divert funding away from other law enforcement, deprioritizing non-immigration law enforcement, should worry Americans and the personnel in those agencies”.
Legal immigrants “make vital contributions in every aspect of national life,” according to the 2016 platform. The article continued to claim that immigrants ‘” commitment to American values strengthens our economy, enriches our culture, and enables us to better understand and compete with the rest of the world”
The new platform focused on closing the border at all costs while expanding legal immigration pathways to boost the economy, despite the original platform’s praise of the benefits of immigration.
