J. D. Vance, a former president, may get his running mate for the 2024 presidential election, according to former president Donald Trump’s announcement on Monday.
In a blog on Truth Social, Trump stated,” After long consideration and thought, and considering the enormous abilities of many others, I have determined that Senator J. D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio is the best suited to hold the position of Vice President of the United States.”
In the article, Trump lists some of Vance’s efforts, including the president’s day in the Marine Corps, his educational qualifications from Ohio State University and Yale Law School, as well as how Vance’s text Hillbilly Elegy “became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country”.
“J. D. has had a very powerful business career in Technology and Finance, and then, during the Campaign, will be highly focused on the persons he fought so beautifully for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and much beyond”, Trump wrote in the article.
Vance defeated then-Democratic Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan during the 2022 election cycle after, as my colleague Tristan Justice reported, receiving an” 11th-hour endorsement” from Trump that April. The endorsement helped bump Vance’s spot in the Republican primary “from a distant third” to first, Justice reported, citing RealClearPolitics.
Ohio has traditionally been a bellwether state; however, Trump notably lost the Electoral College in 2020 despite winning the state for the second time. He has n’t carried the Electoral College since 1960 without winning.
In a recent opinion piece for The Federalist, Turning Point USA Founder and CEO Charlie Kirk argued in favor of selecting Vance as Trump’s running mate, claiming that he is the” single best brain in the entire U.S. Congress for understanding what must be done to complete the Trump realignment on the border, on foreign policy, and on draining the swamp.”
” Vance brings other bonuses”, Kirk continued. He is the candidate for the VP position with the strongest ties to the state, which appears to have the best chance of winning the election at the moment. Pennsylvania’s rural voters are similar to the rural voters in Ohio who chose Vance.
Marco Rubio of Florida and the governor of North Dakota were two other potential running mates. Doug Burgum.
Trump’s announcement comes just two days after he survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
