China: China on Tuesday expressed commitment to help “reconciliation” between rival Palestinian parties, after Fatah said its officers would join in Beijing this quarter with Hamas rivals.
Sabri Saidam, the vice chairman of the Fatah’s central committee, announced on Monday that the parties would hold meetings with Chinese leaders in Beijing on July 20 and 21.
According to Fatah resources, the Hamas group will be led by its social key Ismail Haniyeh, while the Fatah picture will be led by assistant head Mahmud Alul.
Beijing responded to questions about the remarks on Tuesday, saying it had “publish information at a suitable day.”
According to Lin Jian, a spokesman for the foreign ministry,” China has always supported all factors in Palestine to achieve peace and unification through dialogue and negotiation.”
Beijing, he said, “is ready to develop speech and peace, provide a system and create opportunities for all factors on the Palestine problem”.
” China is ready to improve communication with all events and work hard to understand the aim of Palestine’s private reconciliation”, he added.
Since Hamas fighters ejected Fatah from the Gaza Strip following deadly clashes following Hamas ‘ resounding victory in a 2006 election, the two organizations have been bitter adversaries.
The Islamist Hamas movement has ruled the area since 1967, when it first seized control of Gaza.
The Palestinian Authority, which is largely administratively under Israeli control, is governed by the secular Fatah movement.
Although several reconciliation efforts have failed, calls have risen since the Hamas attacks on October 7 that started the Gaza war, with violence also rising in the West Bank, where Fatah is based.
Fatah and Hamas were hosted by China in April, but a meeting scheduled for June was postponed.
China has positioned itself as a more neutral player on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict than its rival, supporting a two-state solution while also upholding good ties with Israel.
