DUBAI: An unprecedented attack on the usually firm kingdom that has sparked issue among its neighbors has been condemned by Gulf Arab states. It is claimed by jihadists at a Shiite shrine in Oman.
Monday’s killing killed at least six individuals– four Pakistanis, an Indian and an Yemeni authorities officer– and wounded 28, authorities said.
The Islamic State group claimed the first known operation in the sultanate, one of the Middle East’s most firm nations.
The neighboring United Arab Emirates expressed its” powerful denunciation of these legal works and its unwavering opposition to all forms of violence.”
A foreign ministry statement said the assault “undermines security and stability, and harm” the life of Omanis.
The firing was described as a “heinous attack that goes against all religious and moral ideals and goals to destabilize Oman’s security and stability,” according to Bahrain’s foreign ministry.
The director general of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem al-Budaiwi, “affirmed the complete support and cooperation of GCC nations” with their fellow part position.
Saudi Arabia praised” the speed and efficiency” with which Omani government dealt with the firing.
The Sunni fanatics of IS, who earlier claimed the same 2015 strikes on Shiite mosque in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, claimed responsibility for the assault.
The terrorists, who regard Shia as sinners, also claimed responsibility for two attacks in generally Shiite Iran in January that killed almost 100 people.
Monday’s strike came forward of Ashura, an annual time of mourning that marks the seventh-century death in battle of Imam Hussein, regarded by Shia as the lawful successor to the Prophet Mohammed.
IS’s Aamaq advertising finger said the attack targeted” Shia practising their annual rituals” in a statement released on Tuesday.
The jihadist group once had swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria before it was defeated in 2019 after numerous military campaigns.
The team has continued to launch attacks on civilians and surveillance officers in both countries despite losing its self-declared” caliphate.”
