University of Dayton rededicates ‘LGBTQ+ Lounge’ to honor ‘husband’ of alumnus

A party for Catholic higher learning claims that higher education sends the wrong message.

The Catholic University of Dayton “recently renovated and rededicated” its “LGBTQ+ Club” in honor of a female patient’s “husband”.

However, a Catholic higher education organization claimed that the Ohio school made errors by encouraging behavior that was against Catholic Church teaching.

” Now, we were honored to be joined by those who helped create this place a truth, including Bill Baird, father of the later John Kennedy ‘ 67, and Matt McNamara ‘ 09″, the school wrote on its Instagram lately.

Nevertheless, the Catholic Church teaches that a man and a person can simply legally marry because they are only one man and one woman.

The lounge’s affiliation with Catholicism was confirmed by the school to The College Fix.

The club offers a place where individuals are accepted with appreciation, kindness, and awareness, according to Executive Director of News and Communications Cara Zinski-Neace, who spoke to The Fix via internet.

The University of Dayton is” committed to honoring the inherent value and dignity of all people,” she added,” Guided by our Catholic and Marianist principles.” ” We strive to develop a college neighborhood where all individuals are welcomed, respected, protected and valued”.

Zinski-Neace used similar language as the universities used in its Instagram article, referring to a participant’s” spouse”.

” The club provides individuals a place to build community, research and grow”, Zinski-Neace also said. The communications director attributed a compassionate donation from a former benefactor and his spouse to the recently renovated and rededicated structure. It has been operational since 2021.

The Fix particularly inquired about the new club and potential conflict with Catholic Church doctrine regarding marriage and sex. There are only two women, according to Catholic doctrine.

Sawyer Federinko, the assistant director for LGBT service, did not respond to various emailed requests for comment in the past many days, asking related issues.

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, acting with a queer tendancy is “intrinsically disturbed” and” contrary to the normal law.” It likewise states that “every mark of cruel bias” toward people who experience sexuality is unacceptable. According to the Catholic Church, homosexuals are called to a life of modesty.

The Newman Society, which promotes a true Christian knowledge, established rules for universities that address sexuality issues.

President Patrick Reilly stated via email that “many Catholic dioceses have adopted our Plan Standards on Individual Gender in Catholic Education.”

According to Reilly, these require that” Catholic teachers adhere strictly to Catholic training on sexuality and recognize each person’s male and female sex.”

A Catholic school” cannot” disagree with these lessons on gender, Reilly said, “without betraying its goal”.

The Catholic leader remarked that a “faithful Catholic school would certainly create a room on campus that is” secure” from Catholic ethics and keeps out pupils who uphold Catholic values.

Instead, Catholic institutions really “celebrate the good of gender reserved for union between a person and a girl, and it would see this as the most compassionate way of guiding its individuals.”

He suggested that the University of Dayton may consider the support of the Newman Society’s Franciscan University of Steubenville and the University of Houston.

Both schools “are modeling true Christian knowledge”.
