Much before Usha Chilukuri Vance, woman of Ohio Senator and Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance, rose to prominence, her 96-year-old great uncle, Chilukuri Santhamma, had become a household name in Andhra Pradesh. Santhamma continues to train science at a private school in Vizianagaram despite her advanced years.
She is a billionaire who donated her home in Visakhapatnam to Vivekanand Medical Trust in order to operate a center, which will soon be converted into a doctor.
Santhamma informed her that GOP political member Trump had chosen Usha’s father as his running mate and that she was happy for her daughter. ” Usha is the daughter of Rama Sastry, my husband Subramanya Sastry’s eldest brother. I’m pleased that she has inherited the sharp intellect and acumen that characterize our home. Both my husband and his elder brother ( Usha’s grandfather ) served as university professors. Additionally, our home has significant institutional concerns. My father, in truth, spent two years in jail during the Incident as he was an RSS worker”, Santhamma told TOI.
She expressed gratitude to Usha and hoped for the success of her husband. ” It is a happy moment for the home. When they win the election, I want to observe them lead to India. Moreover, I hope they will spread the profound ideas of Hinduism in the US”, she added. When asked about her commitment to teaching at the age of 96, she said:” As long as you are healthy, you must dedicate yourself to do good for society”, she said.
Santhamma retired from Andhra University in Visakhapatnam in 1989 after serving as a professor there in 1956. She is still an honourable member of the faculty, though. She has received a lot of praise for her work in atomic and molecular spectrometry. Beyond science, she delves into the abyss of the Puranas, Vedas, and Upanishads.
Her intellectual accomplishments include the English translation of the Bhagavad Gita slokas,” Lord Gita- The Divine Directive.” Despite having hip surgeries and using legs, she travels 60 kilometers each manner from Vizag to Vizianagaram to work as a teacher at Centurion University.
