Billionaire reverses donations to Columbia, says officials ‘ activities ‘ opposed to the University’s goal’
Another Ivy League institution recently lost a significant donation as a result of concerns about its leaders ‘ racism practices.
Billionaire Mortimer Zuckerman, who is Jewish, decided to stop supporting Columbia University after long conversations failed to quell his fears, the Washington Free Beacon reports.
The New York University is criticized for not firing four supervisors for mocking a school board on racism, among other things. Additionally, it canceled completion in the springtime as a result of vicious anti-Israel rallies.
The current decisions and actions by Columbia have been contrary to the University’s quest, according to a Zuckerman spokeswoman. ” We will keep evaluating the condition in the hope that Columbia will regain its sitting, standing, and objective as a reputable educational establishment.”
In 2012, Zuckerman ( pictured ) promised to donate$ 200 million to Columbia for an endowment on interdisciplinary neuroscience research, according to information on the university’s website. He owns U. S. News &, World Report and founded the real estate business Boston Properties.
However, his representative claimed that since then, the school has changed.
More is reported by The Free Beacon:
Zuckerman’s 2012 investment was one of the largest presents in Columbia’s story. According to Columbia, the$ 200 million donation resulted in the establishment of the Mind Brain Behavior Institute, which is intended to support “interdisciplinary neuroscience research and finding by academics from across the University.” The businessman serves as the chairman of the institution’s volunteer board of advisers.
Of the$ 200 million investment to Columbia, a substantial majority percentage has already been given to the university, according to the Zuckerman Family Office representative.
The Mind Brain Behavior Institute is unsure about how the money pause may impact it. Coca-Columbia did not respond to a request for comment.
Columbia and another Ivy League universities have faced wide-spread condemnation from students, legislators, students, and sponsors for their managing of racism in the midst of the Oct. 7 Hamas extremist attack on Israel.
Major sponsors pulled funding from Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania last year out of anger over the administration’s response to the killing, murder, and kidnapping of Jewish residents.
Eventually, anti-Israel protests rocked schools, leading to lots of arrests and, at some universities, large graffiti and debris. However, Jewish individuals reported being threatened, harassed, blocked from attending courses– and, in one case, having a bedroom chamber door set on fire.
Israeli individuals are also suing a number of Ivy League colleges because they allege that their privileges were breached.
