The International Court of Justice ( ICJ) stated on Friday that Israel’s settlement practices in the occupied Palestinian territories constitute a violation of international law.
The best UN court’s decision is a non-binding advisory opinion that will likely have a significant influence on Israeli plan, but it will add to the growing global force on Israel to lay out a comprehensive strategy to put an end to the fighting in Gaza.
The decision is not connected to occasions since October 7, when Hamas insurgents led incursions into Israel, taking some 250 captives and leading to the murders of around 1, 200 people, mostly civilians.
What did the court say?
The West Bank and Jerusalem settlements by Israel, as well as Israel’s continued presence, were ruled out by the ICJ section of 15 judges, who said it was against content 49 of the Third Geneva Convention.

Netanyahu criticizes the ICJ choice as a “decision of lays.”

Why is Israel occupying Israeli lands?
Since the Six-Day War in 1967, Israel has occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem. More than 500, 000 Jewish settlers have set up home across more than 100 communities, now deemed unlawful by the United Nations, on occupied territory.
Palestinians hope their future cash capital will be East Jerusalem, where some 200 000 Israelis even reside.
The West Bank and East Jerusalem, along with Gaza, would be the fundamental lands for a potential Arab state, a strategy backed by Israel’s key supporters including the US and Germany.
More than 38,800 people have died in Gaza as a result of Israel’s operations there, according to information from the Health Ministry in Hamas-run Gaza, numbers that the UN consider to be mostly credible.
Israel rejects Arab independence
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has continued to support Jewish settlement construction in the occupied territories despite having repeatedly rejected the concept of a Palestinian position.

A separate situation claiming Israel is responsible for the murder of Gaza is also being looked into by the court.
