On Saturday, Sen. J. D. Vance, the GOP vice presidential nominee, argued that if Joe Biden drops out of the national contest that he should even withdraw the administration.  ,

In a post on X/Twitter, he wrote,” All calling on Joe Biden to stop running* without even calling on him to withdraw the president is engaged in an immoral amount of cynicism.” ” If you ca n’t run, you ca n’t serve”.
He added,” He should resign now”.
This is n’t the first time this argument has been made.
How can he be our leader for the next six months if he’s not going to be their candidate because he’s never up to it? Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla ) said Thursday. ” If there’s something wrong with you that does n’t allow you to run for president, how can you still be there as president? If they’re going to replace him as candidate, they’ve got to remove him as leader, and that’s really terrible for our state”.
For some reason, Jonah Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Dispatch, took issue with this state.
This just seems to me to be a silly factual argument ( smart politically, though ). Biden had not run if he broke a shoulder, either actually or metaphorically, but he could also provide out his term. Although cancer may cause another word to be foolish, it does n’t necessitate departure.
This is a brain fake. https ://t.co/p1HsJ0wYOB

This, of course, is an immoral discussion. No one is advocating that Biden should n’t move because of a medical condition or a physical limitation, such as a broken leg, or because his ability to serve is usually unaffected.  ,

The issue of whether or not Biden may withdraw from the race is centered on his psychological state, which has a direct impact on his ability to serve.
Goldberg’s logic was immediately mocked by conservatives.
With the nuclear standards, if Biden is now mentally unfit to run, then he is mentally unfit to serve as president.
Vance is absolutely correct in this situation, and I have no idea how the Jonah Goldberg I’ve followed for years ca n’t see it.— Fusilli Spock ( @awstar11 ) July 20, 2024
Horrible reasoning Jonah: Mental incapacity is real reason he is n’t fit to run &, is not analogous to either cancer or broken leg: You can serve out term w/ cancer/broken leg but President ca n’t discharge duties when mentally incapacitated.

Both of those are real problems. Dementia is psychological. If he’s mentally unfit for another term, he’s emotionally unqualified then

Biden’s problems are of mental power, not real.
Leading Democrats are now claiming that he has difficulty interacting with and recognizing them.

Why Jonah Goldberg would make for a morally unscrupulous argument is beyond me to comprehend. He must be aware that if Biden leaves but continues to serve as president, the issue of his intellectual well-being for the president will plague him for the duration of his term, as well as the Democratic Party, which has willingly participated in covering up his intellectual decline for years.
