Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, announced on Tuesday that he will sponsor Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday.
” Looking forward to welcoming Bibi Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago”, Trump wrote in a social media post, referring to his secret club and home.
Their first meeting since Trump’s assassination comes amid tensions between Netanyahu and Democratic President Joe Biden over Israel’s ongoing fight with Hamas in Gaza.
Mahmoud Abbas, the former US president, was shot at during a protest in Pennsylvania, in a text Trump shared. In the email, Abbas expressed his hopes for Trump’s” power and security”. Trump even mentioned his desire to meet with Prime Minister Netanyahu and work toward achieving Middle East harmony.
During his trip to Washington this week, Netanyahu officially requested an in-person conference with Trump. On Wednesday, the Jewish leader will handle the US Congress to demand new support for Israel’s military operations there. He may also join with both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who recently entered the 2024 presidential contest following Biden’s removal.
Given that the November US election has been in a close race, researchers believe Netanyahu is betting on the results. Some think a second Trump administration would give Netanyahu more freedom during the Gaza battle. During Trump’s 2017-2021 name, the two leaders were generally aligned intellectually and on policy issues, for as moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a determination that pleased Israelis but angered Palestinians.
Trump has criticized Netanyahu for the security breaches resulting from the dangerous Hamas cross-border assault on October 7 and has urged Israel to halt the hostages-taking and put an end to the Gaza battle. In his social media post, Trump commended Netanyahu’s position in the Abraham Accords, location US-brokered contracts signed during his presidency that adjusted relations between Israel, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates.
Trump stated on Truth Social,” During my first word, we had peace and stability in the area, perhaps signing the ancient Abraham Accords, and we will have it again.” He also said that Harris, as the frontrunner for the Democrat election, was “in no way worthy of stopping” world problems.
