Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, issued a new threat on Sunday to the US, saying that if Washington deployed long-range weapons in Germany, it might start producing intermediate-range nuclear weapons.
Putin reiterated a previous caution that Russia might begin producing intermediate- and shorter-range nuclear-capable missiles and decide where to launch them after the United States shipped related missiles to Europe and Asia.
In an effort to show its commitment to NATO and Western defence, the US announced the US’s implementation of long-range fireplace skills in Germany in 2026.
Putin warned the United States that the move was likely to lead to a Cold War-style missile crisis in a statement to indicate Soviet military day in the former royal funds of St. Petersburg.
” If the United States carries out such ideas, we will consider ourselves liberated from the unilateral embargo previously adopted on the implementation of moderate- and short-range hit features”, Putin said.
He continued,” This situation is reminiscent of the Cold War events involving the American deployment of medium-range Pershing missiles in Europe.”
Further, the Russian president asserted that Washington is stoking hostility by moving Typhon missile systems to Denmark and the Philippines. He also compared the US pans to the 1979 Nato decision to deploy Pershing II launchers in Western Europe.
” The flight time to targets on our territory of such missiles, which in the future may be equipped with nuclear warheads, will be about 10 minutes”, Putin said.
” We will deploy mirror measures, taking into account the actions of the United States, its satellites in Europe, and other regions of the world,” he continued.
According to Washington and Berlin, the United States ‘ “episodic deployments” are in preparation for longer-term stationing of such capabilities, which include SM-6, Tomahawk cruise missiles, and developing hypersonic weapons with longer range than their current capabilities in Europe.
