Black nationalism on rise due to white supremacy, Rice University study says

It is a’ fair response’ to ‘ white supremacy’s insidiousness’

Black republican tendencies are on the rise, according to” light supremacy”, according to a study from Rice University.

The study generally relies on information from 2012, yet.

” White supremacy makes black nationalism tough and attractive, therefore, certain negroes will often accept it”, the scholars conclude in their paper, titled” Wakanda long! Consistency in correlates of dark nationalist impulses”.

The researchers, led by Professor Tony Brown, identify black patriotism as” an philosophy that advocates for social, economic, political, and cultural independence of blacks from whites and other races and/or group freedom and self-reliance as survival tactics”.

Wakanda is the imaginary land in the” Black Panther” film, part of the Marvel hero line. The writers wrote in their Social Science Monthly paper,” Although the narrative is dream, something about the sovereign state of Wakanda resonated with black moviegoers,” referring to the film’s 2018 transfer. ” We think its frequency originates from the not-so-subtle relationship to dark nationalism”.

Respondents were asked to respond to a series of queries in the University of California Irvine’s 2012 Outlook on Life Surveys.

The statements included:” Black people elected to office really do n’t have the power to change things for Blacks in this country,”” Black people should always vote for Black candidates when they run,” ( 3 )” Black people should shop in Black-owned stores whenever possible,” and ( 4 )” Blacks should not have anything to do with whites if they can help it.”

According to their review of the data, the authors concluded that perhaps false sovereign nations like Wakanda are not defensive to it.” When scholars acknowledge dark nationalism as a fair response to white supremacy’s insidiousness, they must acknowledge that some blacks will always support it,” they wrote.

According to an automatic response message, Professor Brown is the listed contact for questions, but he will take a sabbatical until the fall. Quintin Gorman, a sociology graduate student, did not respond to two emails in the previous six weeks asking for comments on the use of 2012 data and other concerns with the paper.

Although the characteristics of Black nationalists have changed over time,” Black nationalism now finds broader support among different segments of the Black community,” according to a university news release.

Andrew Bell, a spokesman for Rice, said on a phone call on July 10 that he would receive comments from the study’s authors, but he has n’t provided any more details in the last three weeks. The Fix has previously contacted Bell via email with questions.

Politicians can do this in other ways, according to the authors, but they are unlikely to do so openly. They “predict charismatic grassroots black leaders will soon ( again ) begin to openly support self-determination, community autonomy and self-reliance, and/or separatism”.

This open support will come “especially after many prominent white politicians launch vicious attacks on anti-racism, critical race theory, diversity, equity, inclusion ( DEI ) initiatives, and ‘ wokeness.'”

Additionally, the other authors on the list did not respond to a request for comment.

Racial unity organization claims that black nationalism supporters are playing a political game.

The findings of the study are disagreed with by an organization that promotes racial unity.

In an email message to The Fix, Color Us United program coordinator Mike Markham stated,” I do n’t think white supremacy is a significant issue in contemporary American life.” ” Many political figures and media organizations have found it beneficial to persuade people that the idea of white supremacy is much more pervasive and dangerous than it actually is” says one politician.

According to Markham, it is possible that there is” a rise in black nationalist attitudes as a result of the perception of the increased relevance and potency of white supremacy.”

However, he said,” This does not mean that white supremacy itself is any more of a threat to Black Americans than it has ever been at any time in recent history.” There is no proof that this is accurate, I believe. However, there is a brand-new, emerging generation that is being fervently introduced to these claims that did n’t seem to exist just ten or twenty years ago.

” Truth must be prioritized over rhetoric and emotions, and people must commit to treating one another as people of equal value rather than just members of a certain group,” said Markham. When this is not accomplished,” a significant portion of the populace will continue to be vulnerable to racial manipulation to their detriment.”

Markham says the media, ideological politicians, and “race hustlers” are responsible for rising black nationalist tendencies. ” A large part of the grift is also the persuasion that supporting or funding specific individuals and initiatives will solve the issues that we are told are so prevalent,” Markham told The Fix.

Few people bothered to educate themselves in a post-George Floyd society, but BLM Inc. was also openly at odds with the nuclear family, which was the most powerful and beneficial institution in society.
