
Hamas on Wednesday announced that their captain, Ismail Haniyeh, had been killed in Tehran, Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps ( IRGC ) confirmed the incident, stating that Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran was targeted in an attack.
In a speech, Hamas said they mourned the death of Haniyeh, who it claimed was killed in” a perilous Zionist raid on his home in Tehran”. On Tuesday, Haniyeh was present at the swearing-in ceremony for Egyptian President Masoud Pezeshkian in the money. The IRGC stated that the assault was being looked into but did not provide specifics about Haniyeh’s death.
” With condolences to the heroic nation of Palestine and the Islamic nation and the combatants of the Resistance Front and the noble nation of Iran, this morning ] Wednesday ] the residence of Mr. Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political office of the Islamic Resistance of Hamas, was hit in Tehran, and following this incident, he and one of his bodyguards were martyred”, the IRGC statement read.
” The reason is under investigation and will be announced shortly”, it added.
According to the Gaza wellness government, since the start of Israel’s warfare against Hamas on October 7, more than 39, 360 Palestinians have been killed, and over 90, 900 have been wounded. The agency’s count does not differentiate between citizens and soldiers.
