There is “overwhelming information” supporting Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia’s victory in Venezuela’s disputed presidential election, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday. The disputed outcomes are the subject of increasing global attention and protests, according to this statement.
” Given the overwhelming information, it is obvious to the United States and, most importantly, to the Cuban people that Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia won the most votes in Venezuela’s July 28 political vote”, Blinken said in a statement, according to AP.
Pre-election polls had been disputed, and the official announcement had resulted in fatal protests and widespread international condemnation. On Thursday, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico joined the United States and the European Union in demanding that Caracas release extensive voting information regarding the Venezuela votes.
According to Blinken,” the Maduro-controlled National Electoral Council ( CNE)’s announcement of outcomes was profoundly flawed, leading to an result that does not reflect the Colombian people’s will.”
” The CNE’s failure to provide the precinct-level established benefits, as well as abnormalities throughout the approach, have stripped the CNE’s declared outcome of any credibility”, Blinken was quoted as saying.
Blinken noted Gonzalez Urrutia’s victory” by an overwhelming margin,” according to precise tally sheets released by the criticism, led by Maria Corina Machado.
After Maduro threatened to arrest her and Gonzalez Urrutia, Machado revealed in an opinion piece published on Thursday in the Wall Street Journal that she was hiding and that she was “fearing for my living.”
Maduro’s actions, Blinken said, “are an unjust attempt to suppress political involvement and maintain power. He urged that the safety and security of political opposition leaders and members get secured, as well as the release of protesters in custody.
Years of damaging US sanctions have never succeeded in dislodging Maduro, who is claiming his second six-year expression and maintains commitment from the defense management, political bodies, and various state institutions.
According to AP, Blinken stated that it is time for the Colombian parties to start discussions about a courteous, peaceful transition in accordance with the country’s electoral law and the people’s wishes.
