Seven misdemeanor counts of voting fraud were brought against a Democratic candidate from Alabama for a chair in the District 5 Clay County Commission on Wednesday.
In addition to being a “voter favorably favored by the Clay County Grand Jury,” the 45-year-old Terry Andrew Heflin “did willfully voting for another vote or fabricate an absentee vote program or confirmation document to vote absent” and/or deliberately aided any person who was unable to cast an absentee ballot, to-witness.
The indictment continues, noting that” Heflin falsely applied to cast absentee ballot in the Clay County Democratic Primary Election on March 5, 2024″ and/or that” Heflin fabricated an application to do so.”
Heflin is accused of voting for three Alabamans six more times on six matters. The event is being prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Special Trials Division.
Heflin received 141 seats in the Democratic primary in April, compared to Beverly Appleby Hill’s 98.
” I’ve spent years talking about absentee vote election fraud and absentee ballot program fraud,” I’ve said. I have been apparent from morning one that I take election fraud really, and I was never kidding”, Secretary of State Wes Allen said in a statement. ” Attorney General Marshall was instantly notified of what was happening in Clay County,” my department said.
Let this instance of criminal voting fraud send a message to those who are considering breaking Alabama’s electoral laws that it will not tolerate it, Allen said. ” We will locate you and pursue legal action against you”
” Heflin turned himself in to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and is currently being held at the Clay County jail”, according to the attorney general’s office.
Heflin” may experience many years in prison and thousands of dollars in charges”, according to Allen’s business.
According to Allen,” Alabama laws protects our votes severely and punishes those who violate the law,” the statement continued. ” We may continue to file criminal charges against the Attorney General for instances of election forgery.”
Nathaniel Ledbetter, the speech of the Alabama House of Representatives, stated in a blog on X that he is “proud of the work of the Legislature to prevent the dignity of Alabama’s votes.”
Ledbetter continued,” I have complete confidence that the great state of Alabama will be safe and secure as we have a very important election coming up in November.”
