WASHINGTON: For most blacks in America, Donald Trump’s claims of bettering their life is a great white exist. The former president’s latest strategy, which involves questioning Kamala Harris ‘ black identity, has n’t stopped her from trying to sway Black votes away from Democrats.
Kamala Harris has pleasantly owned Indian traditions, which she embraces while remaining largely Black, and is now a target of Trump supporters ‘ social media posts. Trump’s MAGA sheep though cannot seem to find their minds around the fact that people may get bi- or multi-racial.
In the MAGAsphere, hashtags like# Kamalais Indian and# FakeBlack were popular, and Trump himself took the lead on Thursday by posting a photo of Kamala sitting with her maternal grandfather P. V. Gopalan and her grandmother Rajam, with the cheeky message:” Thank you Kamala for the nice picture you sent from many years ago.” Your comfort, friendship, and passion of your American traditions are very much appreciated.”
Also seen in the picture is Kamala’s sister Maya Lakshmi Harris, who is married to Tony West, a past U. S. associate attorney general. Both Tony West, who is Black, and Maya Harris, who has been Kamala’s plan administrator in the past, are part of her inner social circle.
It’s unlikely that she sent the picture because Trump himself admitted to just having an indirect relationship with Kamala earlier this week. But such statements are par for training considering current political playbook ( on both sides ) involves fudging, distorting, and conflating problems and data to score political points.
After showing signs of weaning absent some while Biden was the Democratic nominee, there are no conclusive evidence that Trump has broken any records with the Black vote. A CNN poll of 1, 631 registered voters, conducted between July 22-23, found Kamala Harris has the help of 78 percent of Black citizens, with Trump at 15 percent. Before Biden’s election, a past poll revealed that 23 percent of Black voters supported Trump.
Given that Trump just received 8 % of Black voters ‘ votes in 2020, those figures appear good, in line with Pew Research. You can tell a lot about how erratic Trump’s support was among these voters, according to one social commentator.” When they had a practical alternative that also happens to be of racial identity, they jumped ship from Trump about immediately,” he said.
Even some of Trump’s supporters are furious that he unintentionally tried it at a convention of black journalists earlier this year, despite the difficulties of falling short of the 8 % black vote he received in 2020. In one crash and burn instant during event, Trump said illegal immigrants are taking away” black work, “leading the network to question” What’s simply is a black work, sir? ” Trump:” A black job is anybody that has a job! That’s what it is.”
Simone Biles, an American gymnast who has won two gold medals, made an appearance on Friday, criticizing Trump for his stumble, tweeting,” I love my black job,” with a picture of her winning a second gold medal at the Paris Olympics. That insult was viewed by many Black Americans as insult.
According to projections from the Pew Research Center, black Americans currently make up 14 % of eligible voters in the US, or 34.4 million. However, not all electorates have a voter registration. In battleground states such as Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, they are expected to play a decisive role if Democrats can ensure a good turnout on Election Day.
The MAGA Republican Party’s strategy is primarily focused on preventing the black vote. Legislators in 47 states have introduced more than 360 bills this year that have restrictions on voting access, according to the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law. This includes steps such as curbing early voting and voting hours ( expansion of which will help blue-collar/shift workers, a predominantly Democratic constituency ) and drive through voting ( which helps special needs and differently-abled voters ).
