For the next day in less than a month, a former military soldier has pleaded guilty to unwittingly shooting his expectant wife in their&nbsp, Thomas Township&nbsp, house. As a result, a prison term is good in his future.

Cameron H. Zuzula, 32, in late June appeared before&nbsp, Saginaw County&nbsp, Circuit Judge&nbsp, Manvel Trice III&nbsp, and pleaded guilty to thoughtless release of a rifle causing injury or death. A two-year sentence and a$ 2,000 fine are both possible consequences of the high court misdemeanor.

Trice stated that he would statement Zuzula to a county jail term that could last for up to six months.

Trice indicated at the time that he would establish a name of probation without confinement when Zuzula made the initial plea deal in August. After receiving a presentence record indicating Zuzula’s woman claimed her father was “playing with a weapon when it went out and shot her,” the judge returned to this point.

Trice called a reading on the subject in November in which several testimony, including Zuzula’s spouse, testified.

Thomas Township Police&nbsp, Officer&nbsp, Brennan Ward&nbsp, testified he responded to the Zuzulas ‘ house in the 100 block of&nbsp, East Stark Road&nbsp, the night of&nbsp, May 24, 2022. Zuzula’s mother had called 911 after her brother called her to suggest he had accidentally shot his wife, Ward said.

Ward discovered Zuzula applying a blood-clotting material to his wife’s stomach wound upon entry. When Zuzula pulled the trigger, he repeatedly claimed to have been field-stripping a new weapon he had been using in his house. Zuzula said he had thought the firearm was loaded, Ward testified.

Before striking his wife in the lower belly, the bullet struck Zuzula’s left side. The infant survived the firing.

Zuzula’s family, &nbsp, Lindsay Zuzula, testified she and her father were both in the&nbsp, U. S. Army National Guard&nbsp, when the shooting occurred. She claimed that her father, who is a combat engineer, is an expert in weapon.

” He’s the most amazing husband that I could have ever have been privileged to marry” ,&nbsp, Lindsay Zuzula&nbsp, said. ” He’s also the most wonderful parents. I do n’t know anyone better”.

Lindsay Zuzula&nbsp, said she bought her father a Glock 48 9mm on&nbsp, May 23&nbsp, as a present for his 30th birthday the following day. ” Playing with a weapon” means familiarizing yourself with it, she testified. She maintained that her husband has previously threatened her and that a similar situation will never occur again.

When&nbsp, Judge Trice&nbsp, asked her if she was informed her husband had recently accidentally shot himself, she answered in the affirmative.

The earlier incident occurred&nbsp, Jan. 15, 2016, in Crawford County ‘s&nbsp, Grayling Township&nbsp, and involved&nbsp, Cameron Zuzula&nbsp, shooting himself in his hands. &nbsp, Cameron Zuzula&nbsp, was charged with thoughtless or foolish release of a rifle, but in&nbsp, April 2016&nbsp, received a prolonged word and the demand was consequently dismissed.

That affair evidently did not cause&nbsp, Cameron Zuzula&nbsp, to find a new respect for firearm health, warranting more than supervision, Trice said. Defense attorney&nbsp, Russell J. Perry&nbsp, disagreed, saying both Zuzulas have lost their defense jobs as a result of the&nbsp, May 2022&nbsp, shooting.

” If this were the earliest day this had happened, I had say,’ OK, we may work with him,'” Trice countered. ” But this is the next time that it has happened, and two people were hurt. Given that he served in the military, he ought to understand that handling a gun is very important. If anyone should understand that, it’s the police ( and ) it’s the military”.

Trice gave Zuzula the opportunity to go on trial and remove his plea.

Trice is now slated to word Zuzula on&nbsp, Aug. 12.
