LONDON: A pilot was arrested early Friday night in Dublin after crashing his truck into doors outside the house of Ireland’s leader, the headquarters of the prime minister and the building housing legislature, authorities said.
Terrorism was ruled out by the suspect’s questioning by the police.
The series of incidents occurred around 2 a. m., when federal agencies were closed, and no injuries were reported.
The truck did not leave the grounds after first ramming the gate outside President Michael Higgins ‘ official residence. The driver then traveled about 3 miles ( 5 kilometers ) to central Dublin, where the van plowed into several gates outside two government building complexes.
The wall was blown off its springs outside the attorney general’s office because barricades in the thick iron gate outside Prime Minister Simon Harris ‘ offices were bent inward.
Louise O’Reilly, a member of parliament for the Sinn Féin group, said she and another politicians will beg police, known as gardaÃ, how the incidents may have occurred.
O’Reilly told the national broadcaster RTE,” It’s difficult to understand how someone was able to carry out these attacks in a number of locations in this manner.” We will be asking the garda to provide us with information regarding how this might have transpired and how someone could have visited three different locations in Dublin City before being apprehended.
The driver, who is in his 40s, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving offenses. He had to have the white van he was driving towed away.
