JERUSALEM: Less than a week after the shooting of a major Hamas president in Tehran, Iran, and a major Hezbollah chief in Beirut, the entire Middle East is on top. Despite Iranian officials ‘ purges of retaliation, which have left Israel in a state of deep confusion, growing anxieties of a wider local conflict.
Why is an Egyptian attack expected?
Iran has pledged to avenge the death of senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh after he and another Iranian-backed militant leader leaders attended the new Persian president’s inauguration. Haniyeh was killed in Tehran when he and other members of his leadership of senior Hamas figures were killed. Iranian officials and Hamas officials soon put the blame on Israel and pledged retaliation, but Israeli leaders refused to confirm or refute whether their country was to blame for the country’s defenseless violation.
Iran’s high leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, issued an order for Iran to attack Israel instantly, according to three Iranian authorities briefed on the purchase.
And Iran’s Foreign Ministry director, Nasser Kanaan, said Monday that” Tehran is not engaged in escalating the local problems, but it is necessary to condemn” Israel.
What connection does the issue have to Lebanon?
The Iranian government has stated that any hostile attack may also contain its own proxy causes, including those from Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, and Iraqi extremists.
Prior to the killing of Haniyeh, which occurred the day after an Israeli attack in Beirut resulted in the death of Hezbollah’s top-ranking captain, Fuad Shukr, the country’s proxies, conflicts were already high. The head of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, said after the Beirut affect that the party’s fight with Israel had entered a new stage and threatened a big retaliation.
In response to Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah has been carrying out tit-for-tat strikes on Israel. Hamas, which is also supported by Iran, has launched dozens of missiles and drones at Israel, claiming to show its support for Hamas. In northwestern Israel, close to the Lebanoni borders, Israel has retaliated and evacuated tens of thousands of its members.
In case of a longer-standing issue, the World Health Organization announced on Monday that it had sent 32 plenty of emergency medical supplies to Lebanon.
Days later, a rocket attack targeting U. S. staff housed at a foundation in Iraq’s northern plain injured several American forces, according to American security officials. The assault on Ain as Asad Air Base resembled earlier attacks by Iraqi-backed Iraqi armed groups, who have targeted the foundation frequently over the past few years and have increased their attacks since the Gaza war started in October.
What has the leadership of Israel said?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Sunday that Israel was engaged in a “multifront war” against Iran’s “evil plane” and was “prepared for any circumstance, both excessively and tactically.”
Netanyahu continued,” I reiterate and tell our foes: We will react and we will demand a high price for any act of aggression against us, from whatever source.”
According to a statement released by the Israeli administration’s media company, Yoav Gallant, the Jewish defense minister, spoke with American Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on Monday and told him about the Jewish military’s “readyness to protect Israel against probable threats posed by Iran and its proxies.”
On Sunday, Gallant said at an Israeli base:” We are prepared very strongly in defense, on land and in the air, and we are ready to move quickly to attack or to respond. As we have been doing lately, we will demand a price from the enemy. If it dares to attack us, it will pay a heavy price”.
What kind of diplomacy is occurring?
frantic diplomatic efforts are being made to stop a new conflict as Iran and its allies threaten an attack on Israel.
A day after the Jordanian foreign minister, Ayman Safadi, traveled to Tehran for meetings with his Iranian counterpart, President Joe Biden convened his national security team to talk about Middle East developments. Jordan, a close ally of the West, helped intercept Iranian drones and missiles in an Israeli-Iranian tit-for-tat attack in April.
” Escalation is in no one’s interest”, Matthew Miller, the State Department spokesperson, told reporters in a briefing on Monday. He added that an attack would not advance Iran’s or the region’s interests and that the United States did not think it was “inevitable.”
According to a White House description of the call,” The leaders discussed their efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, including through an immediate cease-fire and hostage release agreement.”
Egypt’s foreign minister, Badr Abdelatty, spoke with the American secretary of state, Antony J. Blinken, urging him to pressure Israel to” seriously engage” in cease-fire talks, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement. According to the State Department, Blinken “reaffirmed that all parties should refrain from taking actions that would escalate the conflict.”
Gen. Michael E. Kurilla, who leads the U. S. Central Command, arrived in Israel on Monday to complete coordination with the Israeli military in anticipation of a possible Iranian attack, according to the Israeli military.
Gallant said that Kurilla’s “arrival in Israel at this time is a direct translation of U. S. support for Israel, into action”.
” The relationship between Israel and the United States is unshakable”, he said in a statement.
Arab and Muslim foreign ministers in Saudi Arabia will meet on Wednesday to discuss” the continued crimes of the Israeli occupation,” including the killing of Haniyeh, and Israel’s “aggressions” against Iran, according to a statement from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
How do Western governments provide advice to the region’s residents?
Countries including the United States, Belgium, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden urged their citizens over the weekend to leave Lebanon immediately.
France also urged Iran’s citizens to leave as soon as possible and refrain from visiting Israel or the Palestinian territories. Due to” the unpredictable security situation,” Canada urged Canadians to refrain from visiting Israel on Saturday.
Numerous flights to and from Beirut were cancelled or canceled by a number of airlines, and many of them had already been sold out. Flights to and from Israel have also been suspended by international airlines like Delta, United, Lufthansa Group, and Aegean Airlines. Many Israelis who are traveling are unable to return home as a result of the flight disruptions.
