People’s traditional values are fading everyday, indicating that. That is not just correct only in the woke, indulgent West, but all over the world, albeit for different reasons. While the West casts off every remaining connection to traditional conscience, elsewhere in the world, old customs are being reasserted. The result is essentially the same despite the remarkably different cultures.

The Jerusalem Post reported Monday that” A proposed amendment to Iraq’s Personal Status Law is causing discussion, particularly among women’s rights followers. The updated law would grant clerics unrestricted constitutional authority when they marry and allow people to choose whether to adhere to Sunni or Shiite household law. According to critics, it would “open the door” for child marriage and privile Iranian women to fundamental rights. Although the amendment’s supporters have strong backing from conservative Islamists who are frequently present in Iraq, it’s nice that the request is at least causing controversy.
And not just in Iraq. The News Agency of Nigeria reported back in June 2021 that” the Chief Imam of the Nasrul-lahi-li Fathi Society of Nigeria ( NASFAT ), Abdul Azeez Onike, says Islam supports underage marriage”. Onike urged people to refer to Muslim texts “instead of using modern standards” to decide whether or not child marriage was a legal practice.” Islamic scripture was apparent about marriage,” Onike said.
Onike is correct in saying that Islamic law and traditions provide ample evidence for child marriage. This is confirmed by many Muslim officials around the world. Turkey’s directorate of religious affairs ( Diyanet ) said in Jan. 2018 that under Islamic law, girls as young as nine can marry.

Ishaq Akintola, a teacher of Islamic cosmology and director of Nigeria’s Muslim Rights Concern, has stated that Muslims can never begrudge those who reject it. An Iraqi analyst on Islamic law, Dr. Abd Al-Hamid Al-‘Ubeidi, agrees, saying,” There is no minimum relationship time for either men or women in Islamic law. Females can only marry when they are 18 years old, according to the law in many nations. This is arbitrary legislation, not Islamic law” . ,
But does Dr. Salih al Fawzan, a notable Muslim cleric and part of Saudi Arabia’s highest religious committee:” There is no minimum age for marriage” and women can get married “even if they are in the crib”. Pakistan’s Council of Islamic Ideology has declared firmly:” Islam does not stop union of young kids”.
These people make these claims based on hadiths that Muslims believe are true, that Muhammad’s favorite wife, Aisha, was six when he wed her and nine when he married her:” The Prophet wrote the ( marriage contract ) with Aisha while she was six years old, and he consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old, and she remained with him until his death” ( Bukhari 7.62.88 ). Muhammad was at this moment fifty-four years older. The same thing is stated in many other earlier Islamic traditions.

Marriage young girls was not all that uncommon in Muhammad’s period. But if, in Islam, Muhammad is the supreme instance of conduct ( cf. Qur’an 33: 21 ), he is considered exceptional in this also now. In establishing the legal age for women to marry, Islam will not be the only country that has adopted Muhammad’s case. According to Article 1041 of the Islamic Republic of Iran, women are prohibited from getting married before their nineties. If the guardian’s consent is granted, a marriage contracted before puberty is acceptable as long as the ward’s interests are properly protected.
According to Amir Taheri, who wrote in The Spirit of Allah: Khomeini and the Islamic Revolution, pp. 90-91 ), Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini himself married a ten-year-old girl when he was twenty-eight. Khomeini referred to a adolescent girl’s union as” a holy gift” and advised the faithful to do their best to prevent their daughters from seeing their second blood in their homes. When he took power in Iran, he lowered the constitutional marriageable period of ladies to nine, in alignment with Muhammad’s case.

Despite all of this, businesses around the world that promote the end of child marriage are largely ignorant of its reasons in Islam. In relation to child marriage, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights rarely mentions Islam. Charity does n’t, sometimes. The same goes for the global television program Girls Not Brides.  ,
The issue wo n’t be resolved until the root causes of the problem’s prevalence in some regions are identified. And more women may suffer.
