
A six-month prison term for the late Nobel prize Muhammad Yunus was commuted on Wednesday due to the announcement that he would take the oath of office on Thursday as the time government’s head. Yunus was given the same sentence on January 1st, 2018, in Dhaka.
MA Awal, chairperson ( in-charge ) of the tribunal, delivered the verdict. Lawyer Khaja Tanvir Ahmed, cited by AFP as saying,” Prof. Muhammad Yunus and three of his associates have been cleared of the expenses.” Dhaka’s employment court-3 had likewise sentenced Grameen Telecom managers Ashraful Hassan, M Shahjahan and Nurjahan Begum. Additionally, Yunus and his coworkers were subject to a 30-kilowatt-a-day fine, failing which they were required to serve 25 more days in prison.
