Tenacious D is n’t going anywhere, but it might take some time for the satirical rock-comedy duo to make a comeback, Jack Black says.
Black, who forms Tenacious D with actor Kyle Gass, clarified this week that the” Wonderboy” and” Kickapoo” band will “be back” after canceling its tour in July. ” Everybody needs a break sometime”, the actor told Variety at the” Borderlands” premiere Tuesday.
After Gass made a controversial comment about the attempted execution of former , President Donald Trump, the” School of Rock” artist announced last month that Tenacious D would postpone its summer trip. On July 13, Trump was injured in a firing at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The firing left one , protest visitor dead , and two critically injured, and the Secret Service killed the , assailant.
A day after the killing, Gass brought the information to the stage. When asked to make a wish for his 64th birthday during a show in Sydney, Gass replied,” Do n’t miss Trump next time”. The remark immediately sparked outrage and the team postponed a present in Newcastle, Australia, amid the discussion. The journey, which was also scheduled to travel to New Zealand and the US, was subsequently called off.
” I was blindsided by what was said at the present on Sunday”, the” Kung Fu Panda” sun said in an Instagram , statement , next month. I’d never permit love speech or promote any form of political violence.
He continued,” All future creative ideas are on hold, and I no longer feel it is appropriate to maintain the Tenacious D journey.”
Gass, who has a , record of criticizing the Trump family, even apologized for his note on Instagram, but as of Wednesday, that post has since been removed from his , page. In his July explanation, Gass wrote that his opinion was “highly unacceptable” and apologized for his” extreme lack of judgment”. Amid the discussion, Gass even faced pushback from X user Elon Musk and traditional American lawmaker , Ralph Babet.
Nearly a month after Gass ‘ comment, Black told , Variety , that his friendship with his bandmate “has n’t changed”.
” These things take time occasionally”, he told the shop,” and we’ll get back when it feels right”.
Tenacious D formed in 1994 as Black and Gass, and their short films and songs,” Tribute” and” Rize of the Fenix,” gained a cult following. The trio most recently released” …Baby One More Time” for the fifth book of Black’s” Kung Fu Panda” company.
