What Did John Fetterman Actually Say About Who Will Win Pennsylvania?

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa. ) went viral on Wednesday for making a prediction about who will win Pennsylvania.

” I think if you match up Trump and Harris … and I do believe he’s going to win in Pennsylvania, and of course, it’s going to be close, but I’ve been maintaining that whether it’s Biden, whether it was Clinton or whether it’s now with Vice President Harris”, Fetterman said during an appearance on Newsmax. ” It’s going to be very close” .&nbsp,

Yet if John Fetterman believed it to be true, would he have said it? I was dubious. But, I checked out the whole interview.

For example, number Greta Van Susteren asked Fetterman,” What is the strategy to win Pennsylvania when it’s so strongly divided”?

” There is, you know, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, but, really, there’s a lot of, places within that as well too”, Fetterman said. ” I grew up in York, and that’s very large. You have Lancaster, you have Harrisburg, you have Erie, and you have, Allentown, and you have a lot of other places when well too. But, it’s not just one giant rural part. There’s a lot of combined kinds of communities most across Pennsylvania. And there are little rural types and there’s, of course, great blue people, but there’s another ones like Erie”.

Fetterman continued, stating that the state’s predictor is Erie. ” And I ultimately believe that whoever may have, their explanation and get Erie may get Pennsylvania”, he said.

He noted that Trump won Pennsylvania in 2016 because he carried Erie, but he believes Walz will “be the kind of person that will relate that much more than” J. D. Vance.

Trump won the state of Texas in 2016; how did that happen? ” Well, I I think I think that-that happened is is that-that Trump did —he created a a strong, connection with the people in Pennsylvania. I mean, that’s obvious as well. And he made profits in those little rural counties that Romney was unable to produce in the 1960s, perhaps even close to 70, but Trump continued to do so into the 1980s, which allowed him to grow.

” And he won by only about 45, 000 vote. And I want to tell everyone that despite the significant baggage and events that have transpired since then, it seems very improbable that he can surpass his ceiling in 2016. And then, in my opinion, Harris will have Pennsylvania regardless of who she chooses to serve as her running partner.

That’s when he said,” I think if you match up Trump and Harris, which I think that’s really what that this is really about, and I do think he’s gonna win Pennsylvania. And, of course, it’s gonna be tight, but I’ve been maintaining that whether it’s Biden, whether it was Clinton, or whether then it’s with vice chairman Harris. It’s gonna be very near, and I do think she’s gonna prevail”.

But, clearly, Fetterman was constantly pushing the idea that he thinks Harris is going to get Pennsylvania. He did not say then. He only misspoke when he said “he” otherwise of” she”.

Of course, because older Scranton Joe has origins in Pennsylvania and was still getting clobbered before Joe Biden left, Donald Trump had a roughly five-point lead in the Keystone State’s RealClearPolitics average. Fetterman was anticipating that Biden would win the state even in the past.
