Donald Trump, the previous president, claimed one of his administration’s websites had been hacked by the Egyptian government. Trump, took to social media and condemned the breach, asserting that while only publicly available data was compromised, for actions are unacceptable. He criticized the US government’s management of international threats and pledged to make the world a safer place.
On Saturday, the Trump campaign made the revelation that its website had been compromised and that Egyptian hackers had stolen and distributed sensitive internal files. It cited a case in which an Iranian military cleverness unit sent a” spear-phishing email to a senior official of a political plan” from a former top advisor’s affected email accounts in June.
However, the plan did not offer precise evidence linking Iran to the violation.
Microsoft review and Egyptian activity
Microsoft’s report, released on Friday, outlined increased international malign influence in the US vote, originally attributed to Soviet operations but just involving Egyptian action.
In a June 2024 incident, an Egyptian military intelligence agency, Mint Sandstorm, targeted a US presidential campaign with a phishing email. A former top advisor’s accounts was the source of this message.
Trump administration’s response and Iran’s rejection
Steven Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, attributed the hack to “foreign sources hostile to the United States” and criticized media outlets ‘ coverage of the documents ‘ seizure. The Justice Department was given the opportunity to investigate reports of unusual intervention, but the National Security Council stated it took them seriously.
Iran’s mission to the United Nations denied presence, asserting that it had no purpose or goal to interfere in the US vote. The denial comes in the wake of Iran’s continued concerns of hacking and its dangers to retaliate against Trump for the 2020 drone attack that resulted in General Qassem Soleimani’s death.
Relevant advances
New developments include the arrest of a Pakistani federal who is accused of plotting execution attempt against US political characters in an alleged Iranian ties. Iran’s motivations are uncovered by court documents, including attempting to avenge Soleimani’s death against government foes.
Five months prior to the exploit, the Politico review, which first revealed the hack, revealed that the Trump campaign had received emails from an unidentified account with a dossier containing Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance, which were sent to an unnamed account.
The Trump plan has not made any comments about how the exploit was handled by Microsoft. Beyond its record, which detailed an increase in international attacks and intervention efforts as the election year progressed, Microsoft has declined to comment further.
The battle for vice president Kamala Harris has not yet responded to questions about the hacking event or its security steps.
