    Leonard Engelman, Lifetime Achievement Award-winning makeup artist, dies at 83

    At the age of 83, Leonard Engelman, an Emmy-nominated makeup artist, properly fought for makeup artists to become recognized in the Academy Awards, passed away on Thursday in Los Angeles.

    Engelman’s death was confirmed by the Cinema Makeup School in Los Angeles, although the cause remains vague, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

    In a career that spanned over five years, he was known best for his work on films such as” The Princess Diaries”,” Rocky IV”,” Batman &amp, Robin”, and” How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, as well as for doing Cher’s makeup for over 30 years.

    Engelman, who was the brother of a Hollywood makeup artist, was born in Burbank in 1941, and may make his first movie appearance in 1969’s” Topaz.”

    He served as Cher’s personal makeup handler during her time acting in numerous films, including,” Moonstruck” ( 1987 ),” Suspect” ( 1987 ),” The Witches of Eastwick” ( 1987 ),” Burlesque” ( 2010 ), and others.

    Engelman fought for the creation of a beauty division within the Academy, becoming its first governor in 2006 with the support of his passionate support. He also played a significant role in bringing hairstylists into the business.

    Throughout his illustrious career, Engelman received Emmy nominations for an episode of” Night Gallery” in 1972 and for the miniseries” Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis” in 2001.

    At the Los Angeles Cinema Makeup School, he also served as a dedicated leader, teaching various generations of artists.

    The Hollywood Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild presented him with a lifetime achievement award in 2017.

    Engelman is survived by his wife, Esther Engelman, their kids Steven, Kimberly, Anna and Jennifer, who is also a beauty actor, and six children.
